It’s a hot summer day and you’re enjoying a family barbeque in the backyard when a small yet annoying bug enters your field of vision, it gently lands on your forearm and just before you are about to squash it, you notice a tiny flashing light. As you begin to scrutinize this strange insect you suddenly realize the awful truth, it’s not a bug at all, it's a “bugbot” and someone is watching you.
Almost gone are the days of hand-to-hand combat between flesh and blood, today we usher in a ‘New World Military Soldier’ which is a biomorphic robot whose mandate is surveillance, reconnaissance, and possibly warfare and the entire encounter is recorded for future strategic military studies.
The US Air Force sponsored by DARPA and Lockheed Martin have developed a highly covert MAV (Micro Air Vehicle) which can be as little as 3 cm in length and weigh less than a mosquito. This open-ended surveillance system is not only a GPS tracker and camera device but can easily be equipped with various types of lethal and non-lethal military weaponry.
In the video from Design World Online above the narrator nonchalantly states that, "Individual MAVs may perform direct-attack missions."
The Harvard Microbiotics Laboratory in collaboration with Harvard's School of Engineering and Wyss Institute unveiled its “RoboBee” in 2013 to great acclaim, stating, “We have now created the first RoboBees—flying bee-size robots—and are working on methods to make thousands of them cooperate like a real hive.”
“This is what I have been trying to do for literally the last 12 years,” said Harvard professor Robert J. Wood, principal investigator on the project, in Harvard’s press writeup. They are modeled after a fly and are the size of a penny, if that isn’t frightening enough, they have larger scale ‘bugbots’ which are multi-legged ambulatory robots on the scale of, and inspired by, both insects and myriapods.
The University of Cornell states, “Our algorithms, based on Make3D, have enabled RC cars and MAVs to avoid obstacles using vision, and successfully navigate indoor and outdoor environments with a wide variety of obstacles (trees, buildings, poles, fences, people...).”
The technology of BEAM (Biology, Electronics, Aesthetics, Mechanics) robots could literally become the “New World Policing” of the future; its soldiers are commanded via satellite and there is no visible villain to combat, there are now only hidden faces of men in secret locations controlling these militarized drones and bots.
This appears to be just one more step towards a transhuman future in which man and machine merge through a variety of methods and technologies.
Some view this transhumanist future as a step towards what the Book of Revelation describes in Revelation 9:
3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.
4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.
5 And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man.
6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.

9 And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle.

11 And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.
While it is very possible these are supernatural or demonic creatures it is also possible John saw a type of modern technology in his vision of the future.
